Cochin
Overview

The
picture-postcard port city of Cochin has earned the sobriquet the
'Queen of the Arabian Sea'. A visit to the city lets one rediscover the

Climate & Best Time
Owing to its seaside location, Cochin experiences a moderately hot and
humid climate round the year. The southwest monsoons cause to bring heavy
showers between the months of June and September. The northwest monsoon also
causes rainfall during October-December. During summers, temperature records
a high of 35 degrees centigrade whereas the winter temperature hovers around
25 degrees. Visitors can plan a trip between September and March which is
the most ideal time.

» Bolghatty Palace
The palace is the most ancient Dutch palace, outside Holland. The setting
and the architecture of the palace is sure to inspire awe in the visitors.
Today, it stands as one of the finest heritage hotels at Kochi.
» Dutch Palace

The
imposing palace was originally erected by the Portuguese in the mid 16th
century. It was offered as a present to the Maharaja of Cochin in 1555 AD.
Later, the Dutch carried out reconstruction work on it.
» Jewish Synagogue
A major draw for visitors to Cochin, it is the oldest synagogue in the
country. It was erected in 1586 AD by a flourishing Jewish community.
» St Francis Church
Another big attraction for tourists at Cochin is this church. Built in 1503
by Francisan Friars, it has the eminence of being the oldest European church
of India.
