Manali
Overview

With
the Beas river rambling through it, Manali (2,050 m) is occupies a position
40 km north of Kullu in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The hill town lies
close to the National Highway connecting to Leh. Snow-crested peaks, forests
of deodar and pine, lush green fields and fruit orchards render an
irresistible charm to the town. While you enjoy a vacation amid the exotic
surroundings, you can also choose to indulge in adventure sports like
mountaineering, rock climbing, nature walks and trekking.
Climate & Best Time
Owing to its high altitude, Manali has cold winters and windy summers.
During summers, temperature rises to a maximum of 25 degrees centigrade.
Winters record a minimum temperature of 2 degrees centigrade. May to October
is the most suitable time to make a visit here.
Places to Visit
The hill town of Manali has enough attractions to keep the tourists busy
exploring them. There are some famous places of worship and some picturesque
spots that might make you gape.
» The Mall
It is the commercial hub of the town and is lined with numerous hotels,
restaurants and shops. Here, you can also interact with the local people
occupied with their daily schedule. Try to pick out some interesting
souvenirs to take back home.
» Vashist Hot Springs
A tiny hamlet with old-style houses and ancient temples, Vashist is famous
for its hot springs which attracts tourists and pilgrims alike. The village
was founded by sage Vashist Muni.
» Hadimba Temple

The
temple stands in the middle of a wonderful wooded park the Dhungri
Van Vihar. The four-storey wooden temple was built in 1553 and stands in
dedication of goddess Hadimba. The intricate wood carving depict various
legends from the Hindu mythology.
» Naggar Castle
Naggar has had the eminence of being the capital of the Kullu Valley for as
many as 1500 years. This stone-and-wood castle, built by Raja Sidh Singh,
affords stunning views of the valley.

Getting There
Bhuntar, 50 km away, serves as the closest airport to Manali. Chandigarh,
the capital of the Punjab and Haryana, is the closest rail link from Manali.
The city has regular trains connecting to cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Road
routes are well established and you can easily gain access to Manali from
Shimla (240 km), Chandigarh (272 km) and Delhi (611 km).
